ABOUT

Who are Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding?

We are a "One Stop Shop" for all your roofing, spouting, waterproofing and scaffolding needs on the Coromandel Peninsula and Hauraki Plains.

Peninsula Roofing was founded in 1996 when Richard and Diane Vetter moved up to Whitianga from Napier as the distributor for AHI Roofing Metal tiles on the Coromandel Peninsula. After travelling around looking at all the towns on the Peninsula, they liked the feel and central location of Whitianga, positioning themselves for the projected growth.

Since then the company has adapted to meet this growth and we offer a wide range of brands, products and services.

The scaffolding arm of the business was set up as a ‘sister’ company in 1998, operating from the same depot, to meet the safety compliance need, growing in the building industry.

July 2023 sees a change of ownership, combining the 2 seperate entities into one company. All staff remain, carrying with them the knowledge and supplier and customer relationships built up over the years. We have now established a depot in Kopu, to extend our reach and provide cost savings to customers on the Thames Coast and Hauraki Plains.

At Peninsula Roofing & Scaffolding we pride ourselves on providing as much value to our customers as possible and offer a total service for all your roofing, scaffolding, waterproofing and spouting needs.

Having a wide range of products, coupled with our ability to create custom roofing solutions means that we can successfully meet all your requirements, as a ‘One Stop Shop’ for all your roofing, waterproofing, spouting, and scaffolding needs. In addition to this, our on-going training and experience within the industry gives you peace of mind that your projects are being handled by the best.

Grant Haycock

General Manager

Grant joined Peninsula Roofing in 2014 as our Assistant Manager and Roofing Manager.

In his current role as General Manager, Grant is responsible for the day-to-day managing of Peninsula Roofing & Scaffolding.

His aspirations for the company are to continually grow our standing within the community, through ever evolving opportunities with customers and community.

Possum Summer

Roofing Manager

Returning to New Zealand from a 4 year near-expatriating stay in Canada, Possum started with Peninsula roofing as an apprentice roofer in 2011.

As the Roofing Manager for Peninsula Roofing & Scaffolding, he communicates with customers, measures and orders roofs and allocates staff to jobs.

If he can’t find a way to be away travelling visiting new places with his family, he is probably at the skatepark with his kids.

Sean King

Scaffolding Manager

Sean joined Peninsula Scaffolding in August 2007 as a labourer and has studied and moved his way through the levels to a ticketed leading hand and holds the position of Scaffolding Manager.

Sean is responsible for the daily scheduling of the scaffold side of our operation; this includes allocating staff to jobs, communicating with customers, measuring and quoting of scaffold jobs and ensuring weekly inspections and sign-offs ensure our scaffold is safe and compliant at all times.

With all these years of scaffolding 'hands-on' experience, you can be sure to still see Sean out on the tools working alongside the scaffold teams.

Outside of work,  Sean is a valued member of Whitianga volunteer fire brigade and is very passionate about photography.  Whenever he can, Sean loves to get out and about in the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula taking photos. We are very fortunate to have Sean with this skill and passion and we often use his photography and drone footage on our website, advertising material and our social media page.

Rachael Ganley

Finance & Administration Manager

Rachael joined Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding in May 2020 and spent the first 6 months shadowing Jan our previous receptionist/secretary while trying to absorb her 14 years of experience and knowledge!

Since them, Rachael has implemented some great systems for us, is keen to understand and constantly improve all aspects of administration across the business.
She has a genuine desire to create a great “admin team” environment.

Rachael utilises her accounting background to run the day to day financial side of our business.

Andrea Brown

Administrator

Andrea joined us in October 2017 to help combat the growing administrative side to operating Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding.

Her background in accounts and office administration means she is a great fit. The majority of her work is now within our scaffolding area - quoting, charging and safety compliance administration.

Andrea most enjoys growing the companies online profile and social media presence across various platforms. As well as creating other design elements for promotions and client appreciation.

Recently she has moved to a 4 day week to gain that work life balance we all crave.

Mike Reihana

Customer Services Representative

Mike joined us in March 2018 as our Customer Services Representative and is the happy face you will see travelling around the Coromandel Peninsula visiting our existing clients. With a background in the building industry - having worked as a builder, aluminium joiner and also in a building product supply company - Mike has a good knowledge of building.

Mike makes sure we are meeting our customers current needs and expectations together with calling in on prospective new clients. He has grown his knowledge of scaffolding via a one-on-one training course with Layher (our scaffolding suppliers) and is also competent to undertake scaffold safety checks, which assists our full-time safe scaffold checker Pete Morrison in his job.

He has a keen interest in rugby and when not working for us, he's out fishing in our beautiful waters and recently has qualified with the Coastguard in order to give back to this vital service.

Shelley Armour

Front Office Administrator

Shelley joined Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding in February 2022 as our Receptionist.

Our business work-load has exploded since then and we needed another administration person to handle the paper war of files and orders to make jobs run smoothly.

Shelley is fast learning this new role and the extra personnel in our administration team means more flexibility and ability to cover each other as required.

Jo Craft

Receptionist

Jo joined Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding in May 2023 in our all important Receptionist role. She is such a welcome addition to our team!

Jo is the smiley face you see when you walk into our office and the friendly voice at the end of the phone.  She excels at customer service and handles all the day-to-day enquiries juggling the demands of emails, phones and walk in customers.

She will leave you with a smile on your dial and has a keen sense of humour.

Licensed Building Practitioners (LBPs), Scaffolding, Access & Rigging Inc (SARNZ) and Roofing Association NZ

We are members of both the Roofing Association of New Zealand and Scaffold, Access and Rigging New Zealand. These associations provide ‘peace of mind’ that we have met the high standard of workmanship, training and business criteria required of its members.

We have a large number of Licensed Building Practitioners who are qualified roofers, licensed in most areas of roofing and waterproofing installations.   Our commitment to on-going training has enabled all our roofers to be licensed as qualified practitioners holding NZQA Level 4 National Certificate in Roofing covering the following areas:

Profiled Metal Roofing and/or Wall Cladding

Pressed Steel Roofing

Roof Membrane

Torch-on Roof Membrane

Liquid Membrane Roof

The Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) scheme was established to recognise competent, skilled building practitioners; which is a key component for the success of many initiatives being investigated as part of the Building Act Review.

It is an offence (with a fine of up to $20,000) for a building practitioner eg – roofer, to carry out Restricted Building work unless they or someone supervising their work is appropriately licensed. The LBP scheme requires licence holders to renew their licence every two (2) years.  Our roofers are required to undertake on-going training and keep up to date with industry changes and regulations. While doing this, they obtain points which they are required to submit when they renew their licence.

With this knowledge, you can be assured that at Peninsula Roofing & Scaffolding we are able to provide you with roofers who are qualified and licensed and up-to-date with the very latest industry products and regulations.
